What will you find in the office of the future?

12/01/2017 at 14:22 pm

Technology is rapidly changing the way we work. The office of the future may look totally different from today. But what will we find in the office of the future? Here we look at five possible ideas of what offices of the future will be like.

Glass Touch Screens

Glass Touch Screens

With the technology already here, transparent glass touchscreen displays could be a regular feature in the office of the future. There could be no need for keyboards and mice as all the functions of the computer will be accessed by just touching the glass ‘screen’. We could even see flexible displays that can be folded up and put in your pocket for easy transportation!

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality

Since the introduction of 360° cameras, virtually reality has started to hit the mainstream. Now videos can be watched from a 1st person perspective. This technology could also be very useful in the work place. The technology could be used to show clients the designs of certain products, virtually show people around buildings and can provide a completely distraction free environment for employees.

Li-Fi

Li-Fi

Our internet is now lighting fast compared to 10 years ago. We may feel we have got it pretty good with broadband speeds getting as high as 100mbps, but with the new Li-Fi technology speeds could increase to 100 times the speed of Wi-Fi! Li-Fi uses visible light to transmit messages by binary code. As Li-Fi uses visible light it means that it cannot pass through walls, making the system more secure than Wi-Fi.

No sitting office

No Sitting Office

This design concept has been made to try and combat the health problems of sitting all day. The space has various spots to stand, lean and lay in different positions. It is designed to encourage a range of movements and poses. This will supposedly help with health problems that arise from sitting in the same spot all day.

More information about this concept can be found here - https://www.wired.com/2014/12/weirdest-proposal-yet-office-future/

Interactive Desks

Interactive Desk

This technology combines the physical and virtual world. The table can interact with physical objects such as a mobile phone or tablet making sharing information between the phone and the computer effortless. Connect keyboards and other equipment just by placing them on the surface. Different widgets can also be downloaded onto the desk allowing for a fully interactive and immersive work experience.

As you can see there is a lot of new and exciting technology that could revolutionise the way in which we work. Whether or not these ideas will increase productivity in the workplace is not known. But it is highly likely that our offices will change drastically as newer technology becomes available.
